DescriptionUp for Consideration is a Scarce 18th Century 1750\'s French & Indian Native American Fur Trade 13\" Belt knife, French Made but British Hallmarked with King George III (GR) & Broad Arrow Inspection Stamps on the Fruitwood Handle!
c1750-1760
Dating to the Mid 18th Century, c. 1750s Colonial Era/French & Indian War Blacksmith made Trade knives were either imported before the war from Franceor Stolen and brought to the Colonies to use for Trading with the Many Native American Tribes. The British would put their inspection marks probably to make them appear British made. This Rare Belt Knife with Nice carved Wood Grip, Very Fine.
This early Belt Knife has a 8.0\" long blade and a 5.5\" channeled and heavily carved wood grip with 5 Brass plugs holding the large blade in place. Again it is British inspection Stamped with George III (GR) under Crown and Broad Arrow inspectors marks. An unusual design with nicely Fruit Wood handle, making this Knife scarcer in its appearance and display appeal and Historical importance.
Condition is wonderful with Fantastic Patina.
Circa 1740-1760
This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years!
