He enlisted on April 26, 1861, at PotomacFurnace, VA., and was mustered into Company A, (Ashby\'s) 7th Virginia Cavalryas a Private.
He re-enlisted February 12, 1862.
Listed on Nov & Dec 1862 roll.
Listed as 2nd Corporal and on furlough on12/31/1862 - 3/31/1863 roll; while on furlough, he and 11 other 7th Cavalrytroopers on furlough joined Mosby\'s 43rd Battalion Partisan Cavalry to recruithorses and was in March 24, 1863 Chantilly fight.
Horse KIA on September 13, 1863, at CulpeperCourt House, VA.; paid $568.
Horse KIA on November 27, 1863, at Parker\'sStore, VA.; paid $950.
Listed as a 1st Corporal on March & April1864 roll.
Listed as a 2nd Sergeant on the July & Aug1864 roll.
Horse KIA & fell on him on November 15, 1864,in Valley, VA.
Paroled May 6, 1865, in Winchester, VA.Postwar he was a teacher and surveyor; livedin Bloomfield, Mount Airy, and Scott, VA.
He was a faithful member of J.E.B. StuartCamp, S.C.V., Berryville, VA.
Joshua died on June 20, 1915, and his wife Margaretapplied for a Confederate Soldier\'s Widow Pension on July 5, 1920.
