Guidelines for Image Submission
  • Thank you for your help!
This site heavily relies on image contributions from collectors around the world. The goal is to have every type and variation of every Soviet award created between 1917-1991 displayed on this website. Please follow the below guidelines. They help ensure the quality of the images, as well as the legality of displaying them on this website.

  • Your own images only please.
Image scans from any published material, or from another website, are not acceptable because of copyright reasons. You must own the award at the time you submit your scan.

  • Scan front and back.
The first image should show a complete scan of the front. The second image should show a complete scan of the back. Arrange the award so it is as straight as possible on the scanning table. The background should be either plain black or plain white (preferably white as this shows edge detail better than black). Please don't put any type of a background in the scans, or any other colored paper or textured material in background. Be sure to leave a small border around the entire award. See these image examples. ( NOTE: they've been compressed for faster transfer ) sample1 sample2

  • Bigger scans are better.
Send the scans at approximately 2-3 times original size. This usually equates to scanning with a setting of 300 DPI. Send them in jpeg (.jpg) format. Do not compress them, as this causes loss of detail. Do not adjust the brightness, contrast, or sharpness. See above links for image examples. If you are unsure if you are scanning your awards adequately for the site, please send a test scan before scanning your entire collection. If the image is not in the correct format it will not be used.

  • Credit for your scans.
Credit for your images is given in the form of a small text tagline within the image. This will read "image courtesy of XXX" where your name will be in place of XXX. No website URL's will be listed in the credit. You must specify the name for use in the credit tagline when you send the image. You will not be asked for this. This must be done before the images are posted online. If you do not specifically mention you want credit attached to your image(s) you will not have a chance to do it later.

The Website Donations FAQ
  • Why should I donate?
Quite simply, this site has Internet server bills and software licensing fees it needs to pay every year. The website and forum provide a service to the collecting community and all that is asked is a small donation to help offset the costs of keeping it online. The donation amount of $20 is approximately the same amount that the hobbyist could be expected to pay for a good reference book on awards, or a collectors magazine subscription.
  • What do I get for my donation?
Most importantly, you will be directly responsible for helping keep this website and forum online. The website provides an online reference, readily available to you whenever you need it. The forum offers the opportunity to interact with fellow collectors from the beginner to the most advanced. Also, with your $20 donation, you will be able to participate in the forsale section of the forum. This is a great way to buy/trade/sell your awards. All for only $20 year! No listing fees, no commissions. Our forums are moderated and visited by experts in the collecting community. Also, when you are a donating member, you are able to browse the forums "ad-free".

  • I donated, can I still be banned?
Yes. The forum rules apply to all regardless of whether or not you made a contribution. If banned, you will not receive a refund.

  • What will you do with all the money?
The funds will primarily be used to offset server costs. Because of the heavy demand of the forum, a more expensive than usual webspace provider has to be used. This better than average webspace provider means a better experience for you. The forum also has several yearly software licenses which must be renewed every year so software updates can be legally installed.

Link Exchange FAQ
Thank You for your interest in exchanging links with The Soviet Military Awards Page. Please be aware that we are very particular who we choose to list on our links page, as is evident by the lack of links. We receive many requests per month and do not approve a site simply to get a linkback. With that in mind, the following criteria must be met to be considered for link exchange.

1. The site must be militaria or military history related. If it is not, please don't waste your time.

2. No beginners sites. If your site has little content, feel free to come back when your site is established and you have quality content.

3. No primarily sales sites. If your site is designed around a forsale section, please don't waste your time.

If your site passes the above conditions, please contact us. We exchange links and position on a reciprocal basis. This means, your site receives the same position and length of description as you give us. Good position on page with a nice description and you will receive the same.
