After seeing this shot I'd say it is clearly non military. Do you agree? (There is alsoa 60 stamped inside)

I agree, you would think that they would leave a diamond in it? Im not sure though.
Still pretty nice though.

Re: Red Beret

That "protection piece" (the thing that prevents badge wire from touching Your forehead) suggests that this beret is surely designed to be used by some uniformed service. Post soviet anyway.

Oh, and btw. the presence of soviet badges on RF items isn't something bad - I remember that few years ago sailors of the Baltic Fleet were still wearing soiet bets and star/wreath badges on their bezkozyrki.

Re: Red Beret

Thanks Al-muell,

so, summing up:

- not soviet
- RF does not use this red
- for uniformed service
- RF badge is dembel
- soviet insigna that looks added at random

such a mess!

Re: Red Beret

For the sake of this discussion and future ones, here is a nice video I just spotted on youtube:

YouTube - Spetsnaz "Vitjaz" training

Turns out the brick colored berets are indeed used by the "police spetsnaz" who are called витязь

Nice video, though when I previewed it, both the sound and clarity of the video were weak.

These are the Interior Forces, the "BB" is visible during an interview, and this is the assessment and selection process I mentioned above.

I couldn't tell due to the clarity of the video, but it seems the last interviewee was still wearing a Soviet cockard on his beret.
