Does anyone out there know where I can find a chart of Bulgarian (People's Republic) Insignia, I'm looking for information on Collar Rank Insignia as all I can really find information on is shoulder boards. Cheers in advance or retreat....

Re: Bulgarian Rank Insignia?

Thanks for the link! Although that site has a stack of information it's unfortunately lacking the insignia I need... I'll make a scan and stick it up here and see if anyone out here knows what rank this Bulgarian holds....

Here's the 1924 born Bulgarian partisan and fully paid up member of the communist party from September 1944 wearing this unknown (to me) rank insignia in 1968.

CtahhR,

It could be civilian aviation.

Re: Bulgarian Rank Insignia?

If I had to take an "educated" I'd personally say he was a reservist with the rank of "colonel" (2 stripes 3 stars). He was issued with a 20th and 25th anniversary of the army medals as well many other awards although when he was awarded an order of 9-9-44 in 1986 it was the civil variation. He was awarded two participant in the antifascist struggle medals and a soviet victory over Germany medal but not a Bulgarian one. A very confused grouping....

Re: Bulgarian Rank Insignia?

Here are some scans of the Victory Over Germany medal document awarded to this man on 12th August 1945. I have no idea what the word before his name is (although I should) just as I have no idea who the horizontal stamp at the bottom is from. Out of the other 12 documents I have named to him the only other references to him that isn't just his name is from 1964 the prefix "Oz." and in 1969 he is referred to as "Partisan" as a title or rank (Both of those documents issued for the anniversary of the BPA). If someone out there could help me out with ranking this Bulgarian Partisan, It'd make my day!

Re: Bulgarian Rank Insignia?

Cheers for that, I googled "Podofficer" and I'm just about as confused by it all now as before! I may need to get "Soviet Bloc insignia and award documents for dumbies"!
