Is there a text in the flag, like "Workers around the world, unite" (but in afghani / russian of course)?

Patrik,

It seems to be a plain Red Flag without any writing in it at first sight. Although when you look closely there are some darker markings these I think are just supposed to be contours in the flag and is not any form of writing.

William,

Are you sure that is a Labour Red Banner?
Yuri describes it as a Military award as well. I think there is just the one award for Military and civilian personel.

The award " The Red Banner " was founded on December, 24, 1980. It is awarded to military men, other citizens of the WAD DRA, foreign citizens and establishments, military units, connections, military schools, enterprises, establishments, organizations, provinces and cities for: - the feats accomplished in fighting conditions and with obvious danger to a life.......

Eddie.

Patrik,
Here is a better pic of the flag from Yuri's site. You can clearly see that there is no writing.

Eddie.

There are usual attributes of labor award on this medal:

- wheat ornaments,
- industrial/agricultural machinery.

I see no military symbols at all - It looks like Labor Award to me.

hello, G.G. Tisov and V.N. Chirchov in their little book state it as a military award (industrial/machineryare not so clear for me..).

I agree with Taz and Charlet, a military award. Here is a picture of an afghan air force officer awarded with Saur revolution order and red banner (courtesy of JP, grenztruppen forum).
