Another thing - is any of the researchers in Russia was able to get an ORIGINAL file and send it? If so, I would like to know.

I used to see original files for sale several years ago. I will never do this as I think it destroyes the archive and as a historian I do not want to see that happen.

As for the missing name theory, you should never have a problem if your group is good. The only time you will find an error is when the group is a fake. What they have to do is find the Award Card first. This is done either with a name (which is easier) or by serial number which requires several steps. From the award card they can get the General Order Number and find the citations for the awards. Since there is duplicate infomration on the citations and Award Card which cross reference in several places, it would be next to impossible to fake these documents.

There are so many other things to worry about in Soviet collecting, I want you to rest assured that the research side is OK.

I second that, Ed. It will eventually destry the capability of historians to learn and research not only awards but many issued regarding GPW and the Soviet Union.

I will say furthermore - don't buy the gruop either if it is offered with original file. Those people will understand that a discent collector won't buy it.

BTW, could you post a picture of an award card?
