Order of the Red Banner of Labor
Dear All,
This question is from Gerd from the Whermacht Awards forum. He wants to know who got this award. The serial number reads: 116698. I will provide photos once I get them smaller than 50kb. Zach |

Zach,
No need. At this time collectors are not able to research civilian awards. Rusty.

Thanks Zach and Rusty. One more question: Are Aluminium suspensions usual for a 1946 award or should it be a Steel suspension?
Thanks in advance best regards, Gerd |

Suspensions
Hello Gerd,
I think for an 1946 award there are brass or iron/steel suspensions usual. There are one piece made suspensions (steel or brass) and two-piece made suspensions from that time period. (Two piece steel suspensions and two piece brass suspension, and steel/brass mixed one´s) I think Aluminium suspensions came up in the 1970´s. But there are also one piece suspensions and two piece aluminium suspensions. Hope I helped you , later I will post a few pics for better understanding. regards Andreas Last edited by Alfred; 04-08-2005 at 07:39 AM. |

Many orders and medals from the 40s have replacement aluminum suspensions. The suspension was often replaced when the ribbon was replaced because it was worn out or dirty. Many times the original brass suspension plate was kept (if it was not too tarnished or dirty), but also often it was replaced by a new (and clean) aluminum one. |

Andreas and Matthijs,
thank you very much for the explanation. It looks like the suspension was replaced at some time on my Red Banner of Labor, as its an aluminium suspension with a quite new looking ribbon. Thanks again best regards, Gerd |
