Question Help with career info

Hello, I am new to collecting soviet medals. I am attempting to re-create a soviet air force major in about 95. I have several questions please?

What would a typical major have in the way of medals and orders?

Major in the AF, not a pilot, 30 years in the service.

How likely was he to have some of the higher ranking, more presitigious medals or badges? Afteer 30 years now likely was it that he would have none?

If he was awarded a medal or badge in say 65 or 70, and the award was then no longer given, or another was created to take its place, would the member still wear the older, discontinued medal?

Were badges and awards EVER worn on the summer work uniform?
Thanks for any help you could give.

air force major

"I am attempting to re-create a soviet air force major in about 95."

In 1995? Not sure I understand which uniform you would need. I assume you want parade use?

"What would a typical major have in the way of medals and orders?

-Best answered by our medal people : )

Depends: if you want him to have some high orders then make him a vet of Afganistan, that would allow a Red Banner, maybe a Lenin, etc.

medal of the battle of Berezina 1812

Has anyone ever seen the medal of the battle of Berezina 1812? Scans are on another thread...please see there so I do not take up too much space. I will appreciate any advice for a historian who is collecting everything on that battle!

Since no one else has answered, I will give it a shot and then you other guys can give comments if you feel like.

Left Side of Uniform (seen from spectator)
Order of the Red Star
Order of Service to Motherland III class
Postwar graduation badge with hammer and wrench
Internationalist soldier badge (if he was in Afghanistan for example)

Right Side of Uniform
Medal for Combat Service (maybe service in Afghanistan?)
20 years of Victory 1965
50th Anniversary of Soviet armed forces 1968
60th Anniversary of Soviet armed forces 1978
70th Anniversary of Soviet armed forces 1988
1500th Anniversary of Kiev 1982 (?)
10 years of irreproachable service
15 years of irreproachable service
20 years of irreproachable service

Above these:
100th anniversary of Lenin's birth (assuming he did a good job)

Below these (I think so at least):
Medal from Grateful Afghanistan people

Just my try

/Patrik

It would be great if DougD as uniforms expert and someone medals/orders guy would review it as well, maybe there is anything that could be added. I am not sure if there could be any mechanics "wings" added, but if so, it would look very good on the uniform

John,
as Eugene has said in the thread where you posted the scans, this is a Commemerative table Medal, however if I see one on offer I will let you know.

Berezina

Thank you Eddie,

I appreciate that its not really Soviet and definitely not an award, the scan is from an old book, I was just hoping someone may know more about it.
