Abbreviations on Documents
Hi folks,
I have a couple of documents with the abbreviation nach-k or the word nachalnik. Another abbreviation I have been unable to find is PP. Could anyone please tell me what they mean? Thanks, Simon

"Chief" is better for "nachalnik".
"PP" is polevaya pochta or "Field Post" like an "APO" in the US military |

Simon,
Desantnik is right. If I were to abbreviate 'nachalnik' (i.e. manager, chief, head, boss, director etc) I would have done it this way. No rules, pure 'instinct'. As with other abbreviations, the point is that every Russian speaker will be able to restore the full word from the shorthand. A bit like when you, native speakers, write 'he is a b*****d' and everyone gets it. Sergei |
