Nope. The Gold Star Medal has always supposed to be worn apart and above all other orders and medals.

Definitely not, but the uniform is sure a nice one. Is this some sort of US movie impression of what the Soviets were supposed to look like at the beginning of the war?
By the way, on such a uniform, he should be wearing a screwback Order of Lenin, not a susension one, and couldn't be awarded with a defense medal (yet!).

do-it-yourself!!!

Gentlemen,

I received this nice set in the mail yesterday.
You can make up your own ribbon bars!!!

The two top ones (10 and 7 awards ones) and the bar with the OPW II and Warsaw were untouched. The bar under the suvorov and khmelnitsky III was made up by me to have some fun.

So, I´d like to see in which kind of uniforms these would look more accurate. Help me please!

USSR was a reluctant ally in WW2; their uniforms

Wow, you even have the Russian Federation ribbon piece for the Zhukov/50 years GPW medal! Is it just a Soviet style piece, with the ribbon replaces with a russian ribbon, or an actual russian federation piece? I only make bars with medals, and even then only with non-serialed and un documented awards. Ironically, I have yet to finish my first Soviet set, but I have my first DDR set, but I started collecting first. (My DDR collection also occupies a huge box, but my Soviet a small noe)

Hi Willie,

It´s hard to tell if the piece it´s RF or Soviet issue. Both are identical to the other ones. Perhaps the original ribbon was replaced by these ones for OPW 50 Ann/Zhukov.

I´ve had this ribbon bars since some time ago (they´re not the made-up ones of the upper post). I´ve been thinking about their proper display on uniforms. My guess is that the large one is for an AF General, but there is this GPW/Warsaw one that looks odd. Veteran´s home-made perhaps?

Whatever, let me know your ideas about in which kind of uniform would these bars look nice. I have some thoughts but I prefer second (experienced) opinions from you.

Thanks

Upper middle: Is this an all-cloth piece? The awards would go with a pre-1945 uniform, not sure if all-cloth ones were used though, should have pin-back attachment.

Left side upper: Colonel, retired from long service, 1970s.

Left side lower: General rank, ground forces, long service, 1980s. Service uniform.

Right side upper: Postwar captain or major, early-mid 1980s. Service uniform.

Right side middle: War veteran in service, seen several similar bars, probably a common "group" of awards. Joined late in war, service postwar. Circa 1970. For service uniform.

Right side lowest: Ribbon bar for civil jacket, postwar veteran not in service after war duty.

There is a whole set of uniform pics available with the same guy wearing lots of different uniforms, not only Soviet but also German, British, US, French. I believe his head is digitally added to the pics. Don't ask how they do it. Computer techs of today

Yep, it´s all-cloth and has stitch traces. Ribbons are glue-attached to a hard cloth piece.

Thanks for your help! It will probably take me a loooooong time to display these ribbon bars properly!
