Strange Combination

I wasn,t sure were to put this International Soldier Medal , is it an eBay joke? Has someone swapped the Suspension?
Whichever it must be a bit of a coincidence that he/she picked a Medal Ribbon in the Afgan national colours for the changed suspension device.
any ideas.
Eddie

The light blue 5- sided Suspension Device on the "From the Grateful Afghan People"Medal comes to mind that was in Tals earlier thread.

Has anybody else seen any Medals,Orders or Badges where the suspension and or the medal Ribbon has been changed maybe for plausible reasons?
What I mean to say is that maybe not all e... jokes should be Classed as jokes, there could be a reason behind the changed Ribbons etc.
Eddie.

Talking

I remember when Rusty purchased the two pieces on 5-sided suspension. I remember asking him: WHY?!?

Rusty, what was your reply? "It just looks cool".

So for novelty reasons, some folks attach the 5-sided suspensions to medals that were designed to be on the 4-sided suspensions.

I have yet to see a HSU or a HSL on a 5-sided suspension. Wouldn't that make a great entry in the eBay Jokes section... (unless the piece was real?!)

This first medal strikes me as a very plausible treatment by a veteran, wishing to stress his AFGHAN service. Using the ubiquitous Afghan ribbon would be a subtle way to make this political statement.

Interesting artifact.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response guys,
Maybe I should have explained the reason for starting this thread a little earlier. Ever since I saw the ``Afgan Medal ´´ in Tals earlier thread I,ve been thinking it can,t just have been High ranking Officers that changed the suspension devices of their Medals to fit their needs.
The Chernobyl Medal, I think is a Umalatova Award and has actually been issued with a 5-sided suspension.
The Lenin Jubilee medal I,ve got myself and I see them at markets quite frequently. They are changed usually though to mount in Medal Bars.

Ed,
That is exactly what I was thinking! A veteran who was proud of his Afgan service.

Maybe more such ``variations ´´ will pop up and we can post them here.

Eddie

Eddie,

Just FYI. Except if I'm wrong (what is always possible, and what Members of the Forum will let us know quite rapidly...) the "Chernobyl Medal" is not a medal but a badge, and in all cases, has not been awarded by Umalatova, but by the "real" Soviet Union.

Correct ?

Cheers.

Ch.

Christophe,
Yes it is a Badge, but somwhere in the Forum, as I recall, there is a thread where the members were wondering if they had run out of ideas because the medal was being Unofficaly issued by Umalatova on a 5-sided suspension.
Maybe I,m wrong, I couldn,t find the thread again I,ll have another look through and check.

Eddie.
