Re: Space Medals

My personal favorite is the 35th Anniversary of the Baikonur Cosmodrome commemorative medal because of the design on the obverse: the Soviet flag, the Sputnik LV, and the Energia LV with the Buran Space Shuttle. There are two versions of this medal that I know of: bronze and some lightweight material.

Re: Space Medals

An interesting medal commemorating the 60th anniversary of Ramenskoye (also know as Zhukovsky) currently on eBay. Ramenskoye is the home of LII, the Gromov Flight Research Institute, and is the main aircraft testing facility in Russia. The annual MAKS Airshow is held there. The airfield was also used as a test site for the Soviet Buran Space Shuttle. I'm keeping my eyes on this one!
Old Russian Space Medal ''Ramenskoye-1986'' - eBay (item 250282372377 end time Aug-20-08 11:02:55 PDT)
Note: Auction ended. No bids.
The Ramenskoye medal has been relisted as a "Buy It Now" at $18.00 + $4.00 S/H, or "Best Offer". I got the seller to post a picture of the reverse, which is pretty nondescript to say the least! I was hoping for a nice design on the back, or at least an inscription of some kind!

Note: Auction ended. Sold for a Best Offer of $12.00 + $4.00 S/H.

Re: Space Medals

Here's someone's fanciful idea of a Space medal. They've taken a common Cosmonautics Museum Gagarin commemorative medal and placed it in a home-made star! Advertised as "Orig. Russian Table Medal Gagarin 1st Space Flight 12-04-1961 year. Metal. The Diameter star 9,5 centimeters. In beautiful condition. Rare Medal." Only $49.00 + $25.00 S/H! What will they think of next? The worst part about it is that someone took the bait!

Note: Auction ended. Sold for $49.00 + $25.00 S/H! WOW!

Re: Space Medals

Very nice, Eric! Congratulations!
The satellite depicted on the front reminds me a Soviet elint satellite that tracked our ships at sea. I'll see if I can find a picture.
