Eric & Tal,
I agree with Tal. The cost per medal wasn't the deal breaker. The issue was more that alot of medals were thrown into the lots that we already have - or didn't want - something that you two noted before the auction. While I would have liked to have picked up a medal or two from other lots the overall cost was just too much. I could afford only one lot, and I went with the lot that had the most medals I didn't have, which was Lot 2922. I only had one medal out of that lot.

Eric,

Can you tell me who awarded this medal (in #206) and what's it for?

Thanks!
Mike

Eric,

I wrote a long letter today to Vassily Omelko, author of the Space Exploration Awards books, and asked him, among other things, about this medal.

New Cosmonautics Federation of Russia Medal

I was doing some research on the web and came across this picture of what was identified as a Gagarin Medal awarded by the Cosmonautics Federation of Russia. This particular medal was awarded to an individual in Feb. 2007, and appears to be a new medal that is not covered by Space Exploration Awards: Catalog, Volume 1, which came out in 2002. I like it!

Found another person who also received this award in 2007. One medal was awarded "for the popularize of scientific and techincal results"; the other, for "accomplished work to further aerospace education and exploration." All I've got to say is, Hey, Tal, they forgot us! Where are our Gagarin Medals?
