I have bought this bar last year, because of the originality of the suspension.
I had never seen one like this. I think this kind of suspension has not yet be subject of one thread in this Forum... Front : made of plastic - a kind of thin plexiglass - painted in the back with the colors of the ribbons. Back : brass, with two pins. Has someone an idea of the objective of such a suspension ? It is obviously heavier than the classical ones... Is it only to protect the original ribbons from dust ? Is it a specificity for displays (museums, ???...) ? Is it usual to find such pieces ? Does anyone have such a bar ? (photos ?) Many thanks. Ch. |

With reflexion on the "ribbons" part, for better understanding.

It was done by recepient of the medals to make the bar look nicer but mostly to protect the ribbons. It's not rare. I've seen plenty of these, but mostly done to single medal.

Plexi ribbons for orders ?
One more question ?...
Does some member of the Forum know if this type of suspension, in plexiglass / plastic, has also been used for ribbons of orders (and not only medals) ? Does anyone has photos ? Thanks. Ch. |

Christophe,
These are non-regulation and were custom ordered by veterans. They were used with both orders and medals. Alexei |

Thanks
Alexei,
Many thanks. I'm still interested in seeing photos, if any (specifically the reverse)... Ch. |

Christophe,
I don't have any photos unfortunately. As for the reverse, they are usually pinbacks and in many cases just have one or two safety pins attached to them. Alexei |
