Re: road to khalkyn gol

I received part 2 from Henry, did a proof read, did some image retouching and sent the entire package off to the coder to be coded into xhtml/CSS. It should be soon, but I don't want to rush the coder.

Re: road to khalkyn gol

Hey I'm checking everyday to see if it is posted!!!
I included lots of photos. Next time I plan another trip to Khalkin Gol, I will let all of you know. You might want to tag along! I'll make a deal with my guide for huge discounts. Believe me, the trip is very affordable. For $25 a night, you get a room with 2 beds, buffet breakfast, etc. Equivalent of a Best Western, Holiday Inn, or Ramada which might cost you $85.
And you can eat great cuts of steak every night since they raise cattle on grass...no hormones, all organic! All for local consumption. Cheap!!!!!

I bought a medal detector for the trip, but it was too bulky and sensitive so I left it behind. Turns out, there is so much stuff there, you don't need it!

Re: road to khalkyn gol

I will probably go in 2 years more or less. I have some friends in Ulan Ude (Russia) whom I want to see again. Justin and I are planning to write a book about Nomonhan/Khalkin Gol for Osprey. We felt we didn't spend enough time on the battlefield! He has all the GPS coordinates so we will never get lost. He took coordinates on our way there, on the battlefield, and coming back. The great thing about Mongolia is, there are no freeways...you know the major route, but with GPS, you just cut across the flat pastureland to shave miles and time. The land is so flat, there are no gulleys, potholes, ravines, cliffs, etc. You can drive cross country blind folded and run out of gas and you wouldnt' hit anything. No trees, bushes, buildings. Just a carpet of green.
It is truly a remarkable place!

Henry!

I've just read it, as always

I believe you've mentioned taking pictures of some awards, I would also love to see them if possible.

Re: road to khalkyn gol

OK, I will start on the next article. I took some photos in the Mongolian Military Museum and the Natural History Museum. I have a nice shot of Dr. A. Battushig and I!

Thanks!
