Belorussian flag

This one is now for sale on e*Bay. It is said it was a captured flag by the German army. I was wondering if this is an original flag. The selling price is quite exagerated (3000 EUR) for the condition.

flag

It looks to be part of a state award flag from the 1930's or 1940's...in mint condition it would not be worth $3000 let alone 3000e...the story about German troops is probably made up.

The lettering is the older 1930's/1940's style, but someone would have to look up the Belorussian state emblem to see if it matches the time period.

That's also what I think about the story, but why would someone tear it like this if it wasn't made a long time ago? Anyway, it still an interesting piece of history ...

It's all relative

I am always dismayed by damaged items but you have to remember that what is a precious artefact now was an obsolete old rag in the 50's

You ave to remember that these flags were made of a very fragile silk, and then had quite a bit of embroidery put on them. That made them pretty weak. I doubt that anyone intentionally destroyed this flag; i am sure it had a few tears and someone tried to 'salvage' the state emblem. The battle-German bring back is made up in my opinion. It shows no real evidence of that, though it is possible.
