Soviet Navy Flag?

Hi All,

Does anyone know anything about the attached flag? I purchased in the mid 90's from a shop in St Petersburg but have never managed to find out any information about it.

The flag is fairly big, slightly bigger than a double bed, I assume this is a full size?

The Soviet Navy isn't my strongest area, but from the pictures, it is definitely what you think it is and yes, it is full size - intended to be seen by other ships - though it also seems to work nicely as a blanket or bed cover (somebody's going to get me for that last bit)

Welcome to the forum! Interesting Naval flag, I have not seen one like it before...perhaps some staff flag? I could not find it in any of the books, but someone here should know it.

It does indeed look authentic, but I have not seen one exactly like it. The date, 1977, and manufacturer's stamps look right. Interestingly the anchor and star motif are similar to that used on the flag of the Chief of Staff of the Soviet Navy, although the gold wreath which surrounds the anchor and star motif is missing on your example, as it the hammer and sickle. The blue triangle puzzles me. Is there a blue border on the bottom of the flag?

Thanks for your reply. There is no blue border on the bottom of the flag. I have been informed that the flag may be from the Navy Yacht Clubs. Does anyone else share this same view?
