I think it's safe to assume that once the ribbons were introduced, the practice of attaching an actual order to the banner was discontinued?

No, in fact units still attached copies of the awards to the flags as late as the 1980s, though it was not a commom practice.

There is a great example in the KGB museum of one of the KGb standards with the order holes still on it. They were done by a seamstress, not just punched through.

I have had many original unit flags in, and some of these streamers, but have never had a flag in with the holes. Remember, most soviet standards were silk and woule tear badly if you tried to attach one of those heavy orders to it.

Gentlemen,

Just a word of caution, these ribbons are heavily reproduced. I was offered some time ago couple of ribbons at $25 a piece.

Again, I disagree about the term reproduction. These are very limited in a market sense; who would want these? I do not think they are fakes, but rather like mos of the modern generals uniforms, just massive overstock. I have had them in by the dozen still with the original tags. They only sell for $70-$80 at most. If they were going to make fakes like this in such number, why not make fakes of actual unit flags that sell for thousands (which they have done on a flag to flag basis; subject for a different thread!).

Doug,

I am not saying that the ones you have are repros. I know for fact that some of those ribbons are currently produced in Moscow and sold to tourists. Would they qualify as reproductions?

Again, like the uniforms, I am not too sure what "fake" means to the Russians. I was over there a few months ago discussing this very thing with them as they confused me with the descriptions they used. I would need to see these ribbons, as the ones i have seen are all 1980's overstock. I have yet to see outright copies of these. Who knows.

Doug,

I think we are having the same discussion in two different threads . I'll reply in the other one.

Ribbons with srandards

Here is an Order of the Red Banner streamer with the standard for the 180th Red Banner Rifle Division with the honor title Kievskaya. This flag was made in 1945 for the victory parade.
