Re: Captured!
Just joined the forum and found this thread. Thought I'd post a few original images from my collection. Here's the first one, which was almost certainly taken in either Summer 1941 or Summer 1942. The inscription on the banner (probably for a work or agitprop unit connected with the state rail system) roughly declares (correct me if I'm wrong!):
COMRADE CONDUCTOR, THROW YOUR SWITCH TOWARD THE PARTY. FULFILL THE LEGACY OF ILYICH [LENIN] I haven't been able to specifically date or locate this photo, but it must have been made in a secure area in warm weather. The Heer soldier on the left is wearing a reed green fatigue uniform. The crudely painted slogan on the building behind them (possibly a warehouse or rail depot) states to the effect: CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE AGAINST FASCISM! More images will follow in due course. Re: Captured!
Welcome Mark! And great photo of a neat flag, thanks for sharing. I've seen nothing before like it, but then my Sovi flag knowledge is minimal.
The Soviets did use art quite well in their propaganda. Some of their designs are interesting still.

Re: Captured!
Mark,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting the photo! The flag is a civilian award flag, but a very nice older one (1920's?)...if you have anymore, post them! Thanks! DougD |

Re: Captured!
This is a nice, early railroad flag, most likely mid 1920's.

Re: Captured!
Thanks for the warm welcome and useful comments. The banner must certainly post-date Lenin's death (21 January 1924) since, of course, the reference to the "Legacy of Ilyich" indicates he had already shuffled off to Bolshevik Valhalla by then.
Will post some more images shortly, which I think you'll find most intriguing. ![]() Regards, Mark Jaeger |
