Fake Hero of the Soviet Union Medals
I've seen a bunch of similar HSU fakes recently, and it looks like they all were made by the same person. I bet this one weighs 19.5 grams.

Finally!!! An ebay HSU Type 2, real or fake??
WOW!!! For you perusal and thrill, an ebay Type 2 Hero of the Soviet Union Medal, serial number 5825!!!
Now, I know something about HSUs because I once owned several. I took many closeup photos of them. This one looks bad. The first red flag is the thick border ridge on the reverse! None of the medals I had, and none I have ever seen, including examples in Paul McDaniel's/Schmitt's book, have such a prominent border ridge. Reminds me of a "Border Reverse" Combat Glory! The suspension ring is not genuine. The gold loop which is connected to the suspension ring is too thick!!! No screwback nut. The entire suspension looks too new. The Cyrillic letters for "Geroi" is too thick. And then there is the weasel worded "...we are not experts on these items our information is limited but after doing some research we came up with the following information..." And the seller devotes at least 4 huge paragraphs giving you the history of the award, but says nothing about this particular award. Reminds me of those TV infomercials on gemstones, knives, and coins...they drone on and on and on... and say nothing meaningful. The photogaphs do not show details that YOU need to see. What a let down. Reminds me of my first blind date in high school. Currently 8 bids and it stands at $305, with 5 days to go! Any comments from HSU collectors out there? |
