Fake Orders of the Red Star

Ok, so here is the reply from the seller.
Hello. Thank you for your interest in my item and I apologize that it took me so long to answer your question. Unfortunately the pix in the listing are of the best quality my cheap camera is capable of. Not sure about the bayonet on the medallion (actually, this is the first time I hear about the bayonet on the Red Star pointing in different directions), but the order itself (as I wrote in the listing) does not seem to show any signs of being tampered with (medallion, screw-post, number) and in general is quite different in shape and size from 2.8 mill. Red Stars (I do have about 8-10 pounds of those).

The enamel also seems to be lighter (in color), or perhaps, brighter would be a better word, than on the later Red Stars, the order is almost visibly just a wee bit slimmer (the arms of the star) and smaller (tip to tip) than late Red Stars. The absence of the screw-post base is really the only thing that I can not explain (save for my guesses in my listing) for the life in me.

The pictures are there, the item on the pictures is exactly the one that is being sold, the starting price is $0.99, so... If you are not sure about the piece, perhaps the best thing would be not to bid on it (at least that's what I try to do). Once again, thank you for your interest and your input. If you need any additional information, please e-mail me and I will respond promptly.

Jeff,

I guess he has a really old digital camera. Even mine, that's at least 5 years old is capable of much more.

I am afraid that without better picture we don't have much to discuss.

Alexei

So this wonderful star with the low number and the 3 million medallion went for $201.50 last night on eB?y. So many people who don't research before they buy.

Ok, but what makes this even funnier is the username of the buyer, "realpro###" Isn't it ironic, don'tcha think?

Is it fake or not? FAKE

Found this one on our local Polish auction site tonight.

At least the guy states that it is a copy. Bought it (cheaply) to see what they did to it.

Scratches?

Hi mates,

what do you think of this red star? Are the scratches of the reverse suspicious of altering the serial number or something? Is it a fake?

Bye,
Javier

Nothing wrong with it. Typically a number is altered to make it below 100,000. I have a number that seems to have been from a lower number and was possibly made a higher number. The only reason I can imagine for that would be to replace a lost Star and the vet didn't want to deal with explaining how he lost his award.

First thing I see is that these never had dimples under the H&S. Second thing was that the mint mark was never level, it tended to curve down. Lastly, in this number range, it should be a small mint mark with a different "Д" than what is shown. Rare, yes, one of a kind.
