Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Wow, GREAT images! And a nice screw post base RS as well, that's something I always wanted and never found. The enamel repair would make no difference to me whatsoever.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Thank you for the appreciation. In the meantime I was browsing the net looking for more ORS ... It is like hunting butterflies, you can still discover unknown species. Look at this "double rivet" OSR: never seen before, on sale today for 12-hundred bucks by a seller of good-reputation.
It is a very rare variation, as the seller states... or more likely we should say "mutation"?

cheers

That is just plain weird. Can't be real. Never heard of such a thing.

Strange, but the actual engraved number looks about like it should for 2.5mil minus the mighty funky fake rivets.

I try not to say impossible, but it does seem "highly improbable" that this is authentic. It looks like the reverse is almost flat.

I have 2,568,701 and 2,576,696, and they are quite normal. This double-rivet dealy has got to be from phunky phreakdom. I phigure porcine objects will fly from my reverse when this comes to pass.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Pieces with two rivets, holding the center medallion have been observed, and there are several theories as to the reason for their existence. In my opinion the most plausible one is that it is a post production repair.

I think the repair scenario is the most likely and that possibility did cross my mind - it is a very clean job - but I wouldn't expect it to be "mint" work and certainly not justifying a $1200 price tag. Otherwise, by the same logic, pieces with high-quality enamel repair would be worth more than all-original or even damaged ones.

Someone is playing the fool and unfortunately, someone else will be the fool.

(I still think the back looks too flat for my liking.)

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Phillip,

I've got to disagree with you on this one

This could very well be a Mint repair job; this star looks like others that have been observed. As to price, you know that saying about the eye of the beholder, don't you

Marc

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Hi,

I have another question about authenticity.
This is a Soviet Order of the Red Star, SN 2,659,870, the Mint Mark measures 9mm (quote of the seller).
What do you think, is this an original piece?
Note: I am a new member and still can't post high res pics.

Thank You very much
Milan
