Order of Khmelnitsky
Fake Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd class, type 1. Like an original this fake is constructed from three pieces, but the center medallion is very slightly misaligned, which is clearly seen at the bottom part right above the sword. Weights almost 5 grams less then it should, other then that a very convincing and detailed fake.

Alexei,
I'm wondering..I've just really started keeping track of all the weights of my screwback awards, and to some extent my suspended awards..depending on how "co-operative" they are in getting them to sit right on the scale. Anyways, what would you consider to be a negligible fluctuation in weights? none of my awards weighs the same..perhaps +/- 1g? Art

Art,
It's different for different awards, and depends on the metals used in construction, and enamels. For instance for Khmelnitsky 3rd Class the difference is +/- 1.5 g, but for Khmelnitsky 1st it's +/- 1.8 g. Sometimes I see "unpublished" variations, that are either too light or too heavy, like Order of Nevsky, which seems to have many variations of the reverse, affecting the weight. Alexei |

Tal,
Looks very good, but I am sure it's light and will lack detail in the ribbon around the medallion, especially near the letters. It is sold as copy, but I believe a copy like this should have a "copy" stamp to make it legal for sale. Alexei |

That's the main problem.
Maybe, in time, No one will buy this and other orders without a COA by McDaniel. EDUCATION, EDUCATION ans EDUCATION is what the collector's community needs, regarding this issue. AND, if someone has a copy, and re-sell it, it is expected that he will marked it promptly. Tal |

Tal,
Right to the point! I don't mind selling copies, but I will always mark them as such. My Dremel rotating tool does the job. It doesn;t take much time, and avoids any confusion. Alexei |

I have a papered Bogdan in my collection but would like some opinions on authenticity---I have seen very few of these orders in my collecting years and am unaware of what to look for---I am including some pictures of the order and papers that came with it
