There is always a posibility of an altered serial number. Alexei

Alexei,
I tend to regard an altered serial number as more of a misrepresentation rather than an outright fake- the item wasn't recreated from scratch and is, therefore, an actual award that is being passed as (often) an earlier version of the same award. What I was referring to was a casting of a struck award... something along those lines that we're seeing all too often among campaign medals (Sevastopol, Odessa, Belgrade,...) and the partisan medals. And then there's the line of recreations coming from a gentleman in Italy. I've seen images of his work with the Labour Glory trio of awards and it's a bit scary. To his credit, he does list them as copies, but someone could always buy one and turn it around on our favorite auction site as the genuine article. To date, I've not seen this done with the Red Banner of Labour.
