Captured dagger

Hi Guys,

Here's an interesting one, this is a German WWII Luftwaffer Officers Dagger, which I belive was an early 1st Model.
Apparently the German Officer was shot down in a dog fight and the dagger was altered to have the Soviet symbols laid over the Swastikas and the blade engraved and was then presented to the Soviet pilot who shot him down.

Interesting piece

Looks like it was customized with a button and a kopek. I guess you use what you got around.

Not really, but I'd like to know what you think it's value might be?

Inscription reads: "For Bravery".

However, I am not buying the history of a pilot being shot down with this dagger...
These daggers were for parade use, and not something you'd wear in a plane.

Of course it could have been part of the cargo in a plane, for someone transferring somewhere.

Very interesting piece!!

Value, who knows??
An unaltered original german 1.st luft dagger would get anywhere from 400-1500USD depending on condition. Condition is everything.
This one also has an altered(shortened) chain hanger assembly.

Best regards,

I have to agree with this. Pilots did not carry dress daggers into combat. More then likely it was taken as war booty and converted. Having said all that it is a neat piece and a great conversation starter and it would be fun to own (if it was cheap that is). Clete
