Soviet Daggers

Hello All,

I know this is a little off topic so please forgive me. Are Soviet era daggers being reproduced? What does one look for to ID the fakes/new production?

Maybe fake is too strong a word? Maybe the former Soviet original makers are still making them with Soviet markings.

Thanks,

Tom

It's so many of them left from soviet time and price is relatively low that doesn't make sense to fake them. It's for basic officers daggers. Those for generals and admirals are more expensive so I wouldn't suprise to see them faked.

Tom,

The daggers themselves are not being reproduced, but the bad guys will do anything to make them more attaractive for collectors - I've seen fake award documents, KGB name plaques, presentation boxes, etc.

Tom,

that can certainly be the case.

Look at this dagger - it has all correct markings - Soviet Crest, Bulat mark, etc. Except for the date - this one was made in 1992, while the Soviet Union ceased to exist as a state in 1991.

I guess they continuued to make Soviet daggers after the breakup of the USSR.

Best,

New World

New World,

In 1992 and for some time after that they were still using the old Soviet symbold, so this dagger is an official Russian issue.

Army dagger from General

Hello

I have this dagger that was engraved awarding it from a Lieutenant general Bogdanov V.M to Symontchuk G.B

Any thoughts on this Dagger, it is from 1957. I have tried to find out who this general was but have had no luck. Can anyone help me with this, where he served etc???

Thanks

Your general could be Vasiliy Mkhailovich BOGDANOV. He was a regimental commander from March 1942 to July 1945. During this period he commanded nine different regiments. I don't know his rank but assume he was colonel by 1945 so he could have been a Lt.Gen. in 1957, possibly in retirement.

His commands were:

March 1942 - 1141 Rifle Regiment (341 Rifle Division)
October 1942 - 809 RR (304 RD)
July 1943 - 25 Guards Airborne Regiment (8 GAD)
July 1943 - 21 GAR (9 GAD)
October 1943 - 8 GAR (3 GAD)
May 1944 - 146 GRR (48 GRD)
August 1944 - 221 RR (61 RD)
April 1945 - 91 GRR (33 GRD)
July 1945 - 381 Reserve RR (9 Reserve R Brigade)
