Replica Presentation Daggers

I have noticed a flood of these being out there on the market lately, particularly on eBay. Can anyone shed some light on these replicas? The blade and scabbard have no locking mechnism (unlike most of the real ones, but not all authentic presentation daggers had them I heard), the emblems are inferior in quality and much more simple. For example the blade has the hammer & sickle with "CCCP" below it, and the scabbard has a simple hammer & sickle insignia as well. The leather wrapping also appears to be a cheap vinyl. What I'm also interested in is what country are these made in? Russia? China? Pakistan? And what are your personal thoughts on these replicas? The only positive thing I can say is, they are very affordable and cheap (naturally).

Red Samurai,

As far as I know, these (an many other sword models) come out of China.

Alexei,

No argument here. As you well know, there never were nay such markings on originals. By the way, these (and other blade "replicas" in the same spirit) are freely on sale in Russia as souvenirs.

Re: Replica Presentation Daggers

Wow, yeah I was quite surprised to see these for sale when I was looking at different Soviet presentation daggers. I know its a no brainer to stay away from these. But a less informed person may not know these are "cheap repros", I didn't at first until I did some research.

I had no idea they were making such fakes.

And to think I was going to buy one soon too! I could have accidentally bought a cheap chinese fake. :O

Last year there was a big number of these daggers for sale on eBay. The price was $19.95. I bought one as a present for my grandson.
BTW, as a souvenir for 11-year old, this dugger looks great.

Re: Replica Presentation Daggers

You know what?
I might just have to get a few to throw around as presents! Last year I went for the ever cheap 5$ Ushanka and handed them out to all my friends at christmas, they all loved them haha.

Re: Replica Presentation Daggers

They could be used as space fillers as well...
