ID These Wings?
These wings came in a bag of small items that I purchased the other day. Can anyone tell me exactly what they are -- I assume they are pilot wings -- and from what period? They appear to be embroidered in some kind of metallic thread but the star is held on by a spread-type attachment. (There must be a word for that.)
Thank you. |

Unknown wings
This appears to be an Aeroflot hat insignia. This is the correct style for Aeroflot insignia, except for the metal star. The metal star looks like a standard epaulet rank star, and would be spurious to the Aeroflot insignia. All in all, I would say with 95% certainty that this is an Aeroflot visor cap insignia with a spurious star added to it.

Aeroflot cap insignia
Here is a scan of Aerflot cap insignia from the book "Kokardi". Note the M1947 bullion embroidered variant (#6).
