Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

According to the ebay seller, it is. Looks new and not Soviet to me.

Any thoughts?

Re: Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

I've never seen anything remotely like it, then again I had no idea there was a section of the Soviet military that launched rockets into the sky to screw with mother natures climate! haha! Sooo, maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge on the subject will enlighten us?
In my opinion it looks new and kind of cheap.

Re: Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

The badge is designated for a participant of nuclear testing. It is most certainly post-Soviet, but interesting nonetheless.

This is a new badge (Russia) "For Participant of Nuclear Testing"
Here are few more medals and badges issued in Russia related to this topic:
1. medal "For Bravery during the Nuclear Testing"
2. badge "50 Years of the First Nuclear Testing"
3. Cross "60 Years - Veteran of High Risk Troops" issued by Chernobyl Union of Russia. There are dates of the first nuclear testing.

Re: Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

Frightening stuff, no matter how you look at it.

Like Paul said, the badge is post-Soviet, especially if that is the original screw nut. But then, Eric's first picture above confirms that.

And Eric, don't you find the 60-year cross a little disturbing since it seems to pucture the world going up in a huge explosion? I suppose you could argue that the "world" of the people impacted by the Chernobyl disaster was destroyed - metaphorically and physically.

I see this picture as a Warning, what can happen, if ....
BTW, here are few more interesting (look nice) awards of High Risk Troops dedicated to Nuclear Testing and Explosions. On all of them dates of the first test and Chernobyl accident.

Re: Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

The warning is clear enough - you are right about that.

The badge is very interesting. It looks like one of what I call the "new breed" of badges that are coated with a thick layer of some sort of clear plastic (or whatever the technical term for it is). Am I seeing correctly? I ask because I have a new Belarus academy grad badge with a similar surface. It allows for a great deal of intricate and very delicate detail which is then safely encased in the "plastic."

Re: Participant of nuclear explosions badge?

No, these badges are high quality, no plastic involved

Excuse me for the confusion because I meant this as a good thing. It is newer technology and I used the term "plastic" in its original meaning: something easily shaped or formed. In this case, a covering for parts of the badge.

Below are photos of the Belarus academy badge I mentioned earlier that the makers used the thick coating of what I'm talking about ("resinous material" maybe is a better term?). I hope you can see it in the pictures - it's one time when I wanted the glare of the flash.

Phil, you sure that's Belarussian? Volgograd is what the former Stalingrad is now called.
