Interesting. Did they do any other publications besides the two hero books, and the COG book? I also have the twice HSU book, which appears to be in the same series.

Does anyone know the history behind why they were commissioned?

The books on the HSU recipients and the Cavaliers of Glory are most impressive volumes...there is nothing as comprehensive on either the MOH or Victoria Cross winners...but this is because ,as has been stated , the Russian books were prepared by their MOD who would have access to all the official records.
I have only just discovered what the small reference details mean that are listed at the end of many of the entries.They refer to any references about the recipient that appear in other printed works.
Can anyone tell me if there is likely to be any bookshop in Russia that would stock any of these titles? I imagine the print runs would be quite small.

I bought my cavaliers of the order of glory at the dom vojennoj knigi (house of warbooks) which is located at the Nevskij Prospect nr 20 in the centre of St Petersburg. The price was 342 roubles which in July was 11.5 US$. They had a few of them and the book has been printed in 10.000 copies.
