New Defense of Caucasus Medal Booklet
Just published in 2004 is the 83-page Russian-language booklet "Medal 'Za oboronu Kavkaza'" (The Defense of the Caucasus Medal) by V.A. Boev and V.G. Lazarenko. The book identifiess four varieties of the medal (large ring 1944, small ring 1945, ring as part of medal 1947, and voenkomat type '58-'89) and also highlights the several types of documents by various republics and other awarding organizations. The book also details the Cyrillic letters with their corresponding awarding organizations, i.e. an "A" was awarded by the Azerbaidjian SSR, "Zh" was awarded by the Grozny oblast, "Sh" by the Armenian SSR, etc. Twenty-seven pages of color illustrations depicting various documents and medal types. Rather interesting even for English-speakers.

New Order of the Red Star publication
I recently purchased a Russian-language booklet on the Order of the Red Star. It is by V.A. Boev and entitled Raznovidnosti Ordena "Krasnaya Zveza" (Variants of the Order of the Red Star). It is published in Kiev in 2005 and has 80 pages and 86 color photos, as well as narrative, serial number spreads for encountered types, as well as prices. Interestingly, a Goznak Red Star is priced at $15,000 and the popular 3-pin variety at $1000. He breaks down the Red Stars into six types, and also shows varieties of dublicates, re-awardings, and documents. Interesting.

Could you please elaborate some more on that book? How much was it? Could you also post a scan or two of it?
Thanks, -Alex. I know that somebody quite known has been working on such book for a couple of years now, but don't think it went into publishing... |

Labor Banner Book
This volume is part of a new Russian produced series regarding variations of orders and medals. They are a nice compendium. The publishing quality is a compromise between the old Soviet quality and glossy: they include a glossy photo section, with the bulk of the text section done in b-w.

Good discoveries. I have never heard about these two books / catalogs. I just think REVERS must be compared to AVERS, the other famous catalogs... Probably Mr Boev just wanted with humour, position its catalogs again the "competition"... ;) Cheers. Ch. |

Boev book 3
Here's probably the nicest of the bunch; a book about booklets.
Published in 2008, 160 pgs, b&w photos, 8 x 5.75 inches (same size as the others.) Orders booklets, medals booklets, medal documents inside. Very nice. I got this one for $11, the previous one for the same price and the fist one above for $6 from a good seller on eBay. PM me if you want his ID. Sorry about the poor images; my scanner stinks. The cover images are fine and the last inside image is about as accurate as I could get; the other two are my bad, not the publishers.

Re: Boev book 1
The first two images are poor and not indicative of the actual publication.

Re: Boev book - Documents for orders & medals 2011
I was very excited to find info on this new book today. I was searching for "Boev" and "documents" after re-reading his 08 catalog. Seems this new one is broken down into two volumes; one for Orders Booklets and the other for the documents.
Was hoping to get some color images on good paper with maybe even a little English language to boot. But from the few images I found it looks like more of the same B/W images that bleed through the tissue paper-thin pages. Maybe I should be happy noone really cares about these documents as a big, glossy colorful book would probably drive up the prices for these. (Just won Budapest, Prague and Koenigsberg docs from eBay this weekend. Hope to have them soon.) Price seems to be cheap; well less than $20 (+ postage from Russia/Ukraine). Possibly almost 300 pages for the 2 books. Probably small format like his last few tomes. Allegedly limited to 500 copies. It will probably wind up downloadable before too long.
