New Book! Orders of Ushakov and Nahimov
It is on ebay. This is the information provided by the seller:
""Soviet Admiral's Orders. Order of Ushakov. Order of Nakhimov". By V.A. Durov and A.A. Pavlikov. This book contains 147 pages, printed on a glossy paper, 21cm by 30cm, in Russian. This book contains the history of the establishment of the orders, 10 high quality photos of the drawings and the prototypes of the order's badges (obverse and reverse) from the "GOZNAK" museum, more then 40 photos of the Orders belonging to the Soviet admirals and generals presented for the first time, personal cards and award documents, full lists of all the individuals and military units awarded with the Orders of Ushakov and Nakhimov of the 1st and 2nd Classes. These lists are presented in a tabular form, having the badge number, name, rank and position of the awarded, date and number of the Decree and date when award was bestowed. The book also contains the historical essays about admirals Ushakov and Nakhimov." Looks very nice and these book deals with ultra rare orders.

Looks like awesome book to have!
The only problem - if you did not manage to obtain one of these awards - they became almost impossible to afford. The last time I saw Nakhimov 2nd cl for sale - it was about $28,000 USD!!! I believe 1st class Nakhimov will set you back well over $100,000 if you can locate one. William |

Yep - that's the same book that I had back in June. Great book though I now kick myself for the Nakhimov 2nds that I passed up "back in the day..."

To be brutally honest... the book isn't so good, although the cover looks great!
I've never seen a reference book (especially on a subject so narrow and so well-known already) with so many errors, pictures not correlating to their title, pictures of one class showing up, undersigned as another, same pictures apprear at diff. pages, but signed as different orders (diff. S/N and awardee), quality of pics quite lame and size so small on half of them you cannot make out a S/N. Large format, but not enough really usefull information, ex. the author had to waste 4 (four) pages to show how the ribbons look like (!?), and fill up quite a real estate with biographies of both admirals and other pretty unrelated stuff... List goes on... With a price tag of $60-70 I think it's a waste of money, expressely since most of forum members don't own any of the orders described:mad: The only good thing there is the full listing of awardees of both 1st and 2nd class orders (both Ush. and Nakh.), but that also has I think 2 errors in there... Still, for Nakhimov 2nd class, this is the first time a full list appeared in public. Those who have the order and for some reason didn't research it yet, now simply don't have to. :) Just my 2 indian heads:rolleyes: -AF. Last edited by AlexF.; 10-30-2005 at 12:13 AM. |
