Fake Alert! This section is for talking about fakes. Fakes, forgeries, counterfeits, alterations, "too good to be true" purchases that later proved "too good to be true" and anything that looks suspicious. |

Proper usage of "It's a fake" type posts
Fellow members,
Effective immediately, all messages pertaining to authentication which offer no information other than "it's a fake" will be deleted. This forum was intended to educate collectors. A three-word reply to a question posed by a fellow member provides no educational value to anyone. A simple explanation of why you think an item is fake is mandatory. If you do not "feel like" posting an explanation than please do not post at all. The explanation should answer the question, not lead to to other questions. For example. "It's a fake. The mint-mark is wrong" NO "It's a fake. The mint-mark for this piece should be on two-lines, not one" YES Any questions on the policy should be directed to me or the moderators. Any member who happens to come across one of these "three-word" type replies is encouraged to report the post so it can be deleted. At the bottom left corner of every post there is triangle with an exclamation point in the center. Clicking this button will send a copy of the message to me. Your information will be kept confidential. Art Last edited by Art; 04-24-2004 at 12:19 PM. |

Re: Proper usage of "It's a fake" type posts
I think now, nearly 10 years down the line this post should have some focus placed on it once again.
Over the last ten years there have been some extremely detailed posts, using graphics and photoshopping that unequivocally inform on the legitimacy of some awards (the Belgrade "compass" springs to mind). Unfortunately due to lack of moderation supervision a few years ago, many users did gradually get into a routine of very poor responses to enquiries which are the sorts of posts that help noone better their understanding and are also contrary to the guide above. The "fakes" section will slowly be updated with all posts of fakes over two years old being moved into the archives threads and posts of real awards being moved to the "real" threads.
