Alexei, old chum, if I had worded it, "despite the inadequate level of detail visible in the images, I cannot make out anything to suggest it is not OK, so kindly take better photos before make any determination at all" would it have been better?;)

In short, I think we both qualified our opinions with statements to the effect of: considering what we were given to work with...:)

In my opinion, this is one of the hardest medals to determine authenticity just from photos or scans, but I didn't see anything overtly off about it - so far.

Yes, what Phillip said :)

The new pictures are great, and as far as I can tell the medal appears to be genuine.

Dear fellow collectors, I would like to submit you some photos of a Soviet medal for Saving from Drowning and I would greately appreciate some comments about it.

Again the same question..original or fake?

Thank you very much!

Re: Medal for Saving from Drowning - original-fake?

GC1909,

With such pictures, it could be anything...

Anyway, from what can be seen, it seems that the gold plating is peeling off, revealing some greyish base metal. If it is indeed the case, then your medal is :thumbsdown

Marc

Re: Medal for Saving from Drowning - original-fake?

That's exactly what struck me... Gold plate flaking off... Somewhat like the chocolate coins you get around Christmas.....

Re: Medal for Saving from Drowning - original-fake?

Thanks to both!

I actually thought the same as soon as I saw the pictures (I did not buy the medal, those pics were sent by the seller).

I will maybe have the chance to see the medal and try to get what that melting actuaally is: if the gold plating is simply breaking away or it is (but I think it is kind of not probable) some kind of abrasio on the gold plating itself.

Anyway I think that I would remain skeptik..

Thanks again.
