Russian & Soviet military awards (DUROV)

A nice booklet in Russian and English, issued by the Russian Order of Lenin State history museum in 1990, 103 pages. This book describes the history of Russian and Soviet awards, since the early Zars.
Very interesting - All variation of early order of the red banner from Soviet republics, Prototypes orders (Order of Bagration, order of the GPW etc.) Nice and important to the collector's library.

In case anyone may not know, this book is also referenced by other collectors as "Durov" after the author V. A. Durov. Definitely a must for collectors. Alot of beautiful czarist awards and presentation weapons as well as some very early and very rare Soviet Republic badges.

I have to say that this is an excellent resource in both English and Russian with quality colour photographs. I use it all the time. As I am more of a uniform collectorthis is an excellent recognition manual.

That is indeed a fine book. Anyone interested in the subject should have it. But it should be noted that it is a book does not claim or seek to be comprehensive. It is a volume which is devoted to the holdings of the Russian state historical musuem on Red Square in Moscow. When I was first living in Moscow in 1966 you couldn't even get in without special permission and they did not display pre-revolutionary awards. I'm sure that they had them in the basement but they did not devote much time to maintaining complete holdings.

new aquisition - Dorov's "Russian and Soviet Military Awards"

After a little while searching the 'e-place' I got this book.
Got it for cheap, and it pops up now and again at a reasonable rate.
In any event I'm quite happy. The book has lotsa nice images of Imperial Russian and Soviet awards.
I'm hoping that those of us who can't afford the now out of print red book book might enjoy a few images of this nice tome.

Here's a few more images.....
The nice thing about this book is that the images come directly from the official government 'medal museum'. In other words the items in this book were deemed "worth keeping" by both the Romanov *and* the Soviet governments.
There are so many amazingingly beautiful items here....no wonder we're all hooked on these items. :)
