By Georgi Putnikov. Compact reference, published in Moscow (1990, and 1994).Many pictures (try to get the 1990 edition - the printing quality is better), Brief - and to the point. A good 'starter" for the beginer collector. Text in English. Contain information about the designers of orders and medals, and small description of awardees.

Does exist in french...
At least the 1990 edition, published by Novosti (Moscow). Never seen the 1994 edition.
A good starter, as said Tal, but the printing quality is not so high...

Also to be noticed, no so accurate as PMD's :
Ex :
Order for Service to the Motherland:

* 1st Class :
Putnikov 1990 says : More than 10,
PMD (based on Kutsenko) says : 13

* 2nd Class :
P1990 : More than 200,
PMD : 589

* 3 3rd Class :
P1990 : More than 75 000 (!),
PMD : 69 576

But not so bad for 1990 !

A good companion for the beginners...
